It’s Spring, and although it may be too early to retire your favourite jumper or whisk open your windows to greet a cooling breeze, you can start embracing the season right away by doing checks and changes that welcome the coming season.
Wipe winter away
During colder winter months we spend more time at home, we cook more and keep our windows shut. Spring is the perfect time to check for dust and mould behind your furniture and window coverings.
Getting rid of your unnecessary knick-knacks and really cleaning up the surfaces around your house will help you spot any mould growth and address it immediately.
Most often, you’ll find mould lurking around windows that have become damp as warm air inside your house condenses on the cold windowpanes.
These simple steps can help you spruce up your windows and avoid mould:
- If you have them, fully extend your roller blinds and swing open your shutters.
- Use a gentle brush or vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris from the sill, shutters, or roller blinds.
- Wipe over with a dry cloth to remove any remaining dust, paying particular attention to gaps, joins around the windows, and spaces between the shutters.
- Wipe the sills with a damp cloth and wash the windows using a microfiber cloth and window cleaner. If you spot any mould, use a mild cleaning solution made of detergent, lemon juice with salt, or bleach.
- Your roller blinds and shutters should be wiped with a slightly damp cloth. Use lukewarm water. Avoid harsh chemicals on roller blinds and don’t use too much water on the shutters, especially wooden shutters, as it can cause them to warp and bend.
- Once fully washed, ensure they all dry properly. Water left on them may cause spotting and damage. If it’s a sunny day, leave the shutters open and the blinds down. Open your windows and let the fresh air ‘blow dry’ the surfaces.
It’s a good idea to clean your window coverings at least twice a month to get rid of any dust build-up and prevent staining.
Wake up your windows
Now is the time to prepare for warmer weather. Swap out your snug fur throws and pillows for light and crisp silks or linens. Invite nature in with fresh-cut flowers and sprinkle a little spring around your home.
If you want to get even springier, wake up your tired window with the latest fashion alternatives.
Fresh, crisp Roller Blinds get top marks for practicality and sleek sophistication. They effectively control the flow of light and provide a streamlined, clean aesthetic. More natural light in your space not only makes it appear larger but also adds an element of openness to even the most closed-off floor plans.
For a cool twist, try Panel Glide Blinds. Constructed of broad overlapping fabric panels, they glide sideways across your windows. They’re ideal covering for sliding doors and large windows, and make stunning room dividers.
For the ultimate in luxury looks, you can’t go past our Plantation Shutters.
Timber Shutters are lightweight, durable, and excellent insulators. Even better, they can be painted in fashion colours from bold and vitalizing to subtle and sensual, whatever reflects your own personal style.
Our classic white PVC Shutters are made from an environmentally friendly, non-toxic polymer that is even more stable than timber for long-lasting good looks.
An alfresco area enclosed by Aluminium Shutters is a stylish, economical way to add value to your home and make the most of the warm Spring weather. Coated in a fade and abrasive resistance enamel, Aluminium Shutters can seal out the wind, rain, sun, and nosey neighbours too.
Check Out Your Deck
Porches, balconies, and decks are where we hang out all summer long, so why not spruce it up in Spring?
Clean the moss off your pavers, scrub your security screens, and wash grime off your wood.
While you’re at it, check your deck is still sound. Look underneath to see if the fasteners and connectors are intact. Examine the timber decks for any worrisome cracks, rot, or mould and make sure the railings and the steps are sturdy.
Once the groundwork is done, we can help you to enjoy the coming warm weather to the fullest by installing outdoor roller blinds and folding arm awnings.
Wire or Track Guided Outdoor Blinds can turn your deck, balcony, or patio into another room of the house. Made from heavy-duty fabric, they offer shade, privacy, and protection from harsh weather conditions and insects. In summer, they can help prevent around 60 per cent of the heat from entering your home.
Folding Arm Awnings can transform your deck or paved terrace into an undercover alfresco area at the push of a button. Say goodbye to struggling with large umbrellas and hello to excellent, angled sun protection. They can slide out up to 4 metres from the wall of your home when needed, then neatly fold away to nothing.
Both our outdoor blinds and our awnings come in materials and colours to coordinate with your home’s exterior.
